Eyeglass Lenses

Eyeglass lenses come in many different options. Choose from a wide variety of materials, coatings, more! Our St. Louis opticians are highly skilled in helping you choose the best lens for your lifestyle and budget. Below are a few popular options to consider.

Nonglare Lenses

All patients can benefit from an anti-reflective coating, which allows more light through the lenses. This significantly reduces glare from light sources such as headlights. Nonglare lenses are more durable and easier to clean than standard lenses.

Light-Reactive Lenses

Enjoy the convenience of lenses that adapt to changing lighting conditions with light-reactive lenses. Virtually clear indoors, they are activated by the sun and quickly change to sunglass darkness outdoors. This keeps your eyes comfortable in any lighting condition. While not a replacement for a good pair of polarized sunglasses, light-reactive lenses are a convenient option for busy lifestyles.

High-Definition Digital Lenses

High-definition digital lenses, or HD for short, offer sharper, crisper vision. We take custom measurements to personalize these lenses for you.

HD lenses use point-by-point digital mapping throughout the entire lens to correct for optical errors and give you edge-to-edge clarity. The more complex the prescription, the more dramatic the result.

Progressive and computer lens wearers benefit the most from HD technology. Talk to our opticians about your unique visual needs.

Sun Lenses

Everyone should have a quality pair of sunglasses. Not only do they showcase your style, but also, they protect your eyes and the delicate skin surrounding them. The sun’s ultraviolet rays can damage your skin and lead to cataracts. Every pair of sunglasses we offer features 100% UV protection. Most patients prefer polarized lenses to virtually eliminate blinding glare, which can be dangerous when driving on a sunny day. Polarized lenses improve contrast, making your world sharper and more vivid. Polarized lenses are available in a variety of colors, including several mirrored options.

Contact Lenses

Prefer contact lenses to glasses? Ophthalmology Associates has you covered. Our St. Louis eye doctors prescribe the latest and greatest in daily disposable lenses, which provide the ultimate in convenience. With contacts, simply put in a new pair each morning and toss them away at bedtime. Wearing a fresh pair each day is also the healthiest contact lens option for your eyes.

We offer all kinds of lenses, depending on your needs.

  • Soft Contact Lenses (Daily Disposable, Conventional Daily Wear, Extended Wear)
  • Hard Contact Lenses (Rigid Gas Permeable, or RGP lenses for short)

Frequently Asked Questions

Glasses

We have quality eyeglass options for every budget! Let us help you choose what will work best for your vision needs at a price you are comfortable with.

At Ophthalmology Associates, we will help you get the most out of your vision benefits, and you can use your flex spending dollars for eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses.

Handcrafting eyeglasses to each patient’s unique specification usually takes about a week. A longer timeframe may be needed for certain lens requirements or due to supply chain issues out of our control.

If you prefer to wear contacts, we can evaluate and fit you for conventional or custom lenses. We are experts in single-use soft contact lenses, so let us help select the right one for your needs and budget.

Our doctors fit custom contact lenses for visual needs like astigmatism, presbyopia, or eye disorders like keratoconus.

Opticians look to match the frame shape and design details that best suit the shape of your face.

We ensure the frame size suits the width of your face and head, without being too tight or too loose. Too narrow of a frame will create pressure points on the side of your head. Frames that are too wide may slip down your nose and/or fall off your face.

We look for the perfect frame color to compliment your eye color, hair color, skin tones, and wardrobe.

We ensure the bridge of the frame rests comfortably on your nose. The pressure from a bridge that is too large or too small can cause redness and irritation.

Opticians also ensure the temples are the appropriate length. Temples that are too long or too short can be uncomfortable and cause a poor fit. We custom fit your temple bend specifically to your ears for optimal comfort and function.

Finally, opticians look to find a frame size and shape suitable for your prescription lenses and your visual needs. Our opticians have the experience to ensure that your lenses and frame combine beautifully so you look great and see clearly.

We stock a wide range of nickel-free frames, including styles made from titanium and beta-titanium, stainless steel, Flexon®, acetate, Optyl®, TR-90, and nylon. Alert one of our opticians to your allergy and we will steer you in the right direction.

Symptoms of visual fatigue may include:

  • Eyestrain
  • Dry Eyes
  • Blurred Vision
  • Headache
  • Neck Pain
  • Shoulder Pain

HD computer lenses with a blue light filter can help relieve these symptoms. We also recommend checking the ergonomics of your environment — your posture as well as the positioning of your monitor and keyboard can greatly affect symptoms.

Ultraviolet light, or UV for short, is emitted from the sun and can be harmful not only to the skin but to our eyes as well. It has been linked in numerous studies to the development of cataracts, which increasingly cloud your vision over time. The good news is that most of our lenses have full UV protection built in. Talk to one of our opticians for more details.

Contact Lenses

Contacts allow you to see obstruction-free and give others a better view of your eyes. If you’ve ever wished your eyes were another color, we can make that happen with colored contacts.

Glasses can be particularly impractical for athletes because they get in the way, fall off, break, or fog up at the worst times. While we certainly do provide prescription sports goggles, swim goggles, and sunglasses, many prefer to wear contact lenses with non-prescription protective eyewear.

During a contact lens exam our eye doctors will determine if you’re a good candidate for contacts by asking questions about your lifestyle, medications, allergies, and your previous contact lens experience.

Eye doctors use special equipment to measure the curve of your cornea, the size and shape of your pupil, your eyelid tension, your ability to produce tears naturally, and your overall eye health. Your eye doctor will select the right contact lenses for you based on this thorough assessment and the type of vision correction you require.

We have contacts for:

  • Distance Vision (Spherical Lenses)
  • Astigmatism (Toric Lenses)
  • Presbyopia (Multifocal Lenses)

Keratoconus, Pellucid Marginal Degeneration, and other Irregular Corneas (Specialty Lenses)

Contact lens technology is continually improving, and today’s contacts are better than ever before. If you tried contacts in the past without success, you may want to revisit this idea. Advances in materials have dramatically improved visual acuity and comfort.

With your contact lens exam, we will teach you how to use your contact lenses, how to take care of them, and the potential consequences of improper care. We will provide you with free trial lenses – usually the same day – to ensure you are completely happy with the prescribed lenses.

Contact lens wearers should have a comprehensive eye exam every year to check the health of your eyes and ensure you’re still seeing clearly with your current contact lens prescription.

We have quality contact lens options for every budget. Let us help you choose what will work best for your needs. Most contacts we sell have a substantial manufacturer’s rebate for purchasing a yearly supply upfront. These rebates can bring the cost down to less than a dollar a day – even for high-tech daily disposable lenses.

We will help you get the most out of your vision benefits, and you can use your flex spending dollars as well. Be sure to ask about flexible payment options for yearly supply purchases.
